In a recent update, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has declared 22 institutions across India as fake. These colleges were operating without proper recognition and falsely represented as legitimate universities. According to the UGC, these colleges are not authorised to offer a degree as per the UGC Act, 1956. This means that any qualification offered by these universities is invalid for academic and professional purposes.
The Commission called out these institutions for misleading students and parents without any legal standing. Moreover, UGC urged parents and students to be careful while verifying the recognition status of any institution through its website before applying. Delhi has topped the list with a total of 10 such fake universities, followed by Uttar Pradesh with four.
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangatha (KVS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Under the MOU, both IIT Delhi and KVS have agreed to enhance Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education among young school students. Furthermore, they have agreed to provide professional development opportunities for teachers.
The aim is to promote scientific temper among young students from classes 9 to 12, and enable teachers with modern tools and techniques. This MOU formalised existing programmes between IIT and KVs, including the SciTech Spins (STS) Lecture Series – a flagship outreach programme.

A 25-year-old innovator, Sparsh Agrawal, has built the world’s first voice-to-voice foundational AI model, called Luna. Luna can sing, whisper, pause, and express emotions like a human. This AI was developed under Sparsh’s Jaipur-based startup Pixa AI. Luna can process audio directly and generate expressive and emotionally aware speech. Agrawal, the developer of Luna, is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology – Banaras Hindu University. This AI was built without major large-scale funding, corporate infrastructure, or a research lab.
The Ministry of Education is set to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Thinking (CT) into India’s school curriculum, starting from class 3 in the 2026-27 academic year. The curriculum is being developed under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF SE) 2023, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has set up an expert committee chaired by Professor Karthik Raman to develop the AI and CT curriculum. Teacher preparedness and capacity building will be conducted through NISHTHA and other national-level programmes, including video lectures and handbooks developed by NCERT.
The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has started the pilot of ‘Elevate’. Elevate is an AI-based mock interviewer that helps students boost their interview skills. This AI tool was developed by the Newton School. It creates a real hiring experience through simulations and provides detailed performance feedback to students.
Even skilled students often struggle in interviews. Elevate bridges this gap by creating realistic practice interview sessions, such as those conducted by Amazon, Google, Razorpay, and other organisations. The tool analyses answers, asks follow-up questions, and generates a detailed report.
